AI Math Leadership Academy for Teachers
Description
The "AI Math Leadership Academy for Teachers" is a week-long, immersive professional development program designed to empower math teachers to motivate Black and other minority students to study advanced math by leveraging their curiosity about AI. By integrating culturally responsive teaching methods, the program aims to enhance educators' abilities to engage and inspire students historically underrepresented in advanced math courses. This comprehensive program includes interactive workshops, hands-on projects, and collaborative learning experiences, ensuring that teachers leave with practical skills and strategies to foster a more inclusive and effective learning environment.
The AI Math Leadership Academy was created on the belief that math can be a powerful lever for personal and collective empowerment—especially when lessons celebrate diverse ways of knowing. It is developed by a team led by Dr. Jean-Jacques Rousseau, and delivered in partnership with the Blackhurst Cultural Centre and the Fields Institute for Research in Mathematical Sciences. The workshop builds on interests and curiosities students already have, including Artificial Intelligence. For more details our unique approach, please refer to our brochure.
In this two‐day workshop series—one designed for high school teachers and another for primary and middle school teachers—you will co‐create Inclusive Math Exploration Toolkits and leave prepared to build brave, identity‐affirming, AI‐infused math classrooms in 2025‐26 and beyond!
All activities are directly aligned with expectations in the Grades 1–8 Mathematics Curriculum and the de-streamed Grade 9 MTH1W course.
The registration fee is $325 + HST and processing fees for the 2-day workshop, with lunch included.
